i don't know if such invention exists already, but think it would be helpful to people in Africa where malaria kills thousands of children every year. I know for example that rats can be repelled with sound, so what if light at a certain frequency could repel mosquitoes? What do you think, is this possible?

Pour a bit of lemon juice over the fruits. Works great on fruit salads or fruit juice. Lemon helps aroma and colors to prolong their fresh state. A peeled apple, for example, will take more time to lose its fresh color if you pour lemon over it. Lemon is also a natural preservative and healthy. If you pour just a bit, it won't affect the taste :)

A new innovation in movies can be the incorporation of live scenes from cities or landscapes. Obviously this can't work for all movies but could be tried in some. I imagine it as follows. When the movie is played some of its scenes will be live and different from one show to the next. The camera that took the initial shot must stay in place during the time the movie is shown in theaters. The live feed will be incorporated into the movie just when the scene is about to play. New York traffic, a tourist spot in Paris or London etc. (read more)

Ticket sales, online ratings, reviews can give us an idea of how good a movie is. I think a better indicator would be that extra little time an audience spends on their seats just after the movie has ended and the credits play on the screen. I would trust this indicator more in figuring out how good a movie was. If the cinema goers didn't rush to the exit as soon as the movie finished, that means it must have been really good!

Public lighting when no one is around is energy wasted. Lights that are on only when people walk in the area is better use of energy. Shopping malls use movement detectors to open/close entrance doors or activate use of automatic stairs. Why not use the same for city lighting?

Make local supermarket and grocery stores sales data available online so that local food managers can access them for a fee. By studying the data on grocery sales from all supermarkets and stores in the area food managers will get a pretty good idea of people's preferences. For example, if your local food deli or restaurant sells pasta you can find out from sales data which types of spaghetti sauce people in your area buy the most. First make sure that you offer them in the menu and then work on improving their taste.

Some people might agree that the biggest problem with cooking is not cooking itself but deciding what to cook. One way to help yourself decide is to make menus, put them in a basket and each day pull out one. It's a clever way to trick yourself into making a choice instead of trying to figure out what your choices are before you can decide.
