I would be interested to see famous operas like Madama Butterfly performed by real geishas trained in opera. When a story centers around the life of a geisha why not have real ones perform it? Geishas are supposed to be trained in all the arts. I read that they are in decline in Japan so demand for a new genre of opera-trained geishas could help revive the tradition!

opera geishas, a new genre? |

why are so many opera singers big and fat? does it help their singing or is it a coincidence? I don't know if it helps with the singing or whether it has to do with keeping one's mouth open for too long that it leads to the habit of taking big mouthfuls. I can see though how a big fat tummy can develop if diet can't be controlled. perhaps an unintended consequence of opera singing?

restricted view seats in an opera is when you can't read the surtitles from where you're seating. why can't the opera houses provide individual text-scrolling devices on those seats? a small hand-held device that streams text is not rocket science and it doesn't cost much to buy and provide. if you can't change the view, work around it!

I don't understand why choosing a pretty young girl to sing the Chinese anthem in the Olympic ceremony over one with a better voice became such an issue all of a sudden. This was a show, nothing more nothing less. How many times doesn't something like this happen on any country's TV anywhere in the world? Lip-synch singing is an art in itself. Besides, beauty and aesthetics is important for a medium so visual as TV. What's the big deal, the organizers combined the nice voice with a pretty face, come on people, stop complaining. TV is all about appearances even when it's "live". How many famous newscasters you know will wear shorts or be naked from the waist down when they deliver the news to you? (read more)
