I know that every keyword I type on Google search is up for sale. Someone is interested in bidding on my keyword to have his ad placed on the first page of Google so that I can see it.
It just dawned on me that every keyword I set up with Google's other free service, Google Alerts, must be of equivalent or stronger commercial interest to the same advertisers who bid on Google for my search keywords. The way I think of it is that by setting up keywords on Google Alerts, I declare/confess a strong interest in following something/someone online, otherwise why would I be asking Google to keep me alert/informed about it on a regular basis? Cuil.com is advertised as a new search engine that aims to compete with Google but I really doubt it, I don't buy the story. I believe Google developed Cuil and is launching it as a separate, "competing" search engine in order to avoid a potential drop in its stock price in case Cuil fails. Developing a more advanced search engine than Google costs millions of dollars and since it was developed by people that used to work for Google, it seems to me Google is 100% behind it. If Cuil works, Google will buy it. If Cuil fails, nothing happens to Google stock. I must admit, that's really smart!

Do you feel lucky? Here are some tricks you can play by hitting the I'm Feeling Lucky button on the Google home page. Search for "Google Funny" and instead of the Google title being displayed front and centre, you can have whatever you want. Are you unable to get on to Facebook - or any other site for that matter - because the boss has blocked it? Just type cache:facebook.com and your problems are solved. Too many searches and not enough time? Just type in "googlegooglegooglegoogle" and you will be given four smaller Google screens on your page to hunt for four different things at one time. Microsoft rolled out its answer to Google, known as Bing. Now, perhaps there are some folks out there who are looking for a new search engine, but I don't really know any of those people. I like Google, it's straightforward and I know how to use it. So, what's Bing going to bring to this game? Microsoft has been in a bit of copycat mode lately with Vista (Microsoft OSX) to Silverlight (Microsoft Flash) and now Bing (Microsoft Google). Perhaps it should put its gigantic heads together and come up with a product that won't immediately be compared to a superior one that's already been serving the market quite well. It's just a thought.

I am a great fun of Google and its software. I use Picasa to organize my photos and Google Earth to look up addresses or places I want to go to. I noticed that Google Earth allows users to upload photos using this service called Panoramio but the photos you can see are limited. Why don't they use their own software Picasa instead? (read more)

Is that a glimpse of the future Google is working on? I am talking about the "I'm feeling lucky" search button. Google revolutionized search because it gives you the most relevant results. If it can give you the exact thing you were looking for, that would be only 1 result you would need. That would be Google at its most efficient.

I don't understand why some people try to compete Google when already Google is the most powerful and intelligent search engine.

Following court orders, Google revealed the name of an anonymous blogger who posted rants about model Liskula Cohen. Cohen supposedly "forced" Google to reveal the blogger's identity by suing the company. Google defends revealing the name as compliance with the letter and spirit of the law. Remember Yahoo in China? They had also claimed compliance with local law after revealing the identity of a Chinese blogger exercising freedom of speech which doesn't exist in China. The US, however, is Not China! (read more)

Go to this website and surprise your friends with a magic trick. This is not new, but I'm sharing the trick and the explanation for those who haven't seen it or tried it. It's smart. Definitely worth a few seconds to try it.
What you will see when you go to the page is this: you are at the Google homepage, and you casually ask someone to watch the Google logo. Then, you move two of your fingers to completely cover the "o"s in the Google logo. When you remove your fingers, to much surprise, the letters "o" will be missing from the logo. Now you ask your friend to move her fingers over the missing "o"s. After your friend removes the fingers, the logo will be complete again! (read more)
