How about a same-day divorce service for marriages that are not contracted on a fixed-term basis? The application could be made online and the divorce issued instantly even if both parties do not consent to it. Whatever disputes the couple might have (money, children custody etc) they can be resolved in the court and take as much time is usually needed but from the day the divorce is issued the couple is no longer considered married under the law.

The first time for marrying the highest number of women (86 total) and the second time for divorcing them (82 of 86)...In terms of having a record for giving birth to the highest number of kids (170) I wouldn't trust the number to be accurate, if you can have 86 official wives then who knows how many the unofficial ones are...with shariah law in effect there, divorce lawyers will be in great demand :) (read more)

In the hope that marriages will last longer and divorce rates go down

1. A selfish, undeserving guy who has cheated some woman out of a divorce.

2. A person who doesn't have to leave a party just when he starts to have a good time.

3. A man who missed the opportunity to make a woman miserable.

Inability to consummate(=have sex) or refusal to do so? The end result is the same but the motive is different. If it's inability, did both know about it before they got married? Refusing sex is a different story I think but how do you prove it if no one was virgin prior to the marriage? Can declaring a marriage invalid be the easy way out of a long and painful divorce procedure?

All single people are trapped because they are judged by others or given pity for "being alone". However, I spend most of my days listening to married people talking about their divorce or wanting out of their marriage. I think we're screwed either way. I mean, really! Why is being single so bad? Next time anyone tries to hook me up with the most random person they can find, I'm going to throw my drink at them. I'm single. Not Desperate.

If you want more bang for your buck gamble it up. The practice is legit, made off first in the US banging and gambling industry which is going down the pipes of disrepute faster than you can say myth or spin. Or faster than even Madoff's wife can get a divorce from him. What else is left to make off? If someone works for the government that person is considered to be a civil servant. Why not call all remaining bankers whose banks were bailed out by the government civil servants too? The irony with civil servant bankers and traders is that their new job status wasn't made up but made off from sitting on a ticking bomb!

since nearly half of marriages end in divorce, wouldn't it make sense for couples wanting to get married be required to do a course?

apart from the obvious subject of effective communication, including how to read the subtleties of male and female communication, couples could also undergo therapy*, both individually and as a couple. since therapy is effective only after long-term treatment, the course would require, say, 4 years, after which it will earn the couple a degree. I don't argue that all Italians approve of Berlusconi's publicly flirting with younger women. I find it interesting, however, that his image as a politician is not affected negatively whenever his wife will publish a rebuke of him in the press. What does that say about Italian culture I wonder. Do Italians excuse his behavior because he is a prime minister or because he is a married man?
