I am responding to JackSparrow's earlier post here ( http://www.thinkaloo.com/ideas/view/view_idea.php?id=1334) about squat principles in Islam. The text in Greek on top of this door reads: "Room for free expression and self-concentration". As you can see, what people in the West do in the toilet Can have spiritual significance. The spiritual dimension of one's toilet activity here seems equally important to the physical aspect of it. It be no surprise if some people behind this door practice the insignia with religious fervor. That the Pope didn't include the principles behind this form of spirituality in his teachings could have been, after all, a grave omission :)

If polygamy is the right of man to marry more than one woman, I define polywomany as the right of man to mate more than one woman. Before Christianity it was ok for the rich and powerful at the top to engage in polygamy and polywomany. This made it difficult for those at the bottom to mate and reproduce. Until Christianity reversed this with the monogamy commandment. Religion was fair to the weak and powerless. It gave everyone more chances to reproduce by restricting concentrated multi-mating. Do you think this was intentional or was it a consequence?

As a caveat to this post: I cannot accept the assertion that anything that relates to faith cannot be talked about by atheists. In my world view everything must be open to debate.
That being said, I want to focus this post on the existence or not and the definition of what is generally called spirituality. (read more)

Love, love is just a leap of faith he said.
You have to believe in it for it to exist.
If you stop believing then it dies…
It’s just like God he continued
If you don’t believe in God, then God doesn’t exist. God is dead.
So do love and God come from the same place, he asked? (read more)

I'm an agnostic when it comes to my atheist beliefs which means I don't believe God exists because I'm skeptical that it's possible for me to believe otherwise. The good thing is that I can be an atheist without being an agnostic in general, just skeptical and noncommittal only when it comes to my ability to believe that God exists. Because I believe what I believe in a situation where say I'm stuck in Hell with someone who's visiting from Heaven, I can honestly tell them 'Go to Hell' and mean it. If I believed God existed, I could only say 'Go back to Heaven' but I wouldn't be honest with myself as my true feelings would be 'Stay in Hell'. That's the trap people in Hell will fall into if they believe it's possible for Heaven to exist but not me.

If I take this vow and have a happy marriage that I want to keep in heaven, do I have to remarry? What if I die before all my friends do and I can't invite them to the wedding? Who would I invite then? Strangels? And what if I can't afford the divine ceremony? A happy marriage should last forever. The vows changed to "For Better or Worse, For Life And Death...Till Heaven or Hell Together for Ever" :)

as far as i'm concerned god warned both of them but eve tasted the apple first. in other words the bible tells us that the temptation to taste a new food is stronger in women. so far as the bible is the whole truth and nothing but the truth, i swear to god, women's taste in food is to be trusted more than men's. god is undoubtedly quite puzzled by this. contrary to his original design, more men than women are chefs these days. a job better entrusted to women by nature is overwhelmingly in the hands and tongues of men. the day of the wrath must be near, i can smell it coming from my kitchen...

I came to the island of Lefkada to spend Easter weekend. The traditional church ceremony was the funniest I have been to in many years. Fireworks lit the sky at 11:15pm, 45 minutes earlier!! A granny asked me if Christ's Resurrection had happened. I told her with a very serious face that in this church they resurrect Christ one hour earlier because the priest has to go to another church soon after. (read more)
